What is difference between DALI1 and DALI2 ?

- The manufacturer must be a DALI member.
- The product is compatible with DALI 2 protocol, and the test results are uploaded to the
website of DiiA.
- The test results are approved and the products can be searched on the website.

– Main differences
DALI2 products must pass the test of the officially designated test equipment (ProbitLab2) and
upload the generated results to the DiiA website for approved, so as to obtain the certification of
DALI. Only approved products(certified) can use the LOGO of DALI2 on the product label.
DALI1 belongs to the self-declared type. As long as the test conforms to the protocol of DALI1 or
passes the test of DALI1, then it is allowed to print the LOGO of DALI1 on the product lable
without uploading the test result to the official approved of DiiA.

Whether it is DALI1 or DALI 2, no official DALI certificate or test report can be provided .

For DALI 2, as long as it can be found on the website of DiiA, it means that the product is in full
compliance with the DALI 2 certification, and it means that the product has undergone rigorous
tests and obtained the official certification.
- Test items
DALI 2 adds some new commands and makes the testing process more rigorous and more
compatible.
For example, added the device recognition command, added call last memory brightness
command and so on.
More stringent control effect, such as fade dimming, power on process, power off process have
more stringent test requirements.
It used to take 1 day to complete all the tests of DALI 1, but now it takes 2 days to complete the
tests of DALI 2.

- Bus power supply and control device types added
In DALI 1, only Control gear type devices are defined, such as LED driver, emergency drive,
fluorescent driver, etc.
In DALI2, bus power supply and control devices added, such as sensors, knob switches, sliding
switches, switch panels, etc. all of which have defined standards and related test sequences,
expanding DALI application devices and ensuring compatibility of these devices.
5.Used together
The DALI1 drives can be used on DALI2 systems.
The DALI 2 driver can be used in the DALI 1 system, but some new features of the DALI 2 driver
will be lost.
