The rise of intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) lighting, what are BOKE’s products

2024-7-18 | Other news

With the rise of intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) lighting, intelligent lighting management with asset management, energy consumption statistical analysis, device status monitoring, and fault alarm modules has become a future development trend. User demand for this technology’s products is becoming increasingly strong. Today, we will take you on a comprehensive understanding of energy monitoring and management drivers.

Overview of D4i and EnergyData

What is D4i?

D4i technology is an extension of the DALI-2 protocol, which adds support for data related functions on top of DALI-2 lighting control, including data collection and analysis of lighting assets, energy, and diagnostics. It consists of four parts: DALI part 250 integrated bus power supply, DALI part 251 lighting data, DALI part 252 energy report, DALI part 253 diagnosis and maintenance, among which DALI part 150 24V auxiliary source is optional for non D4i product essential functions.

What is EnergyData?

EnergyData consists of three parts: DALI part 251 lighting data, DALI part 252 energy report, and DALI part 253 diagnosis and maintenance. On the basis of DALI-2 lighting control, support for data related functions has been added, such as the collection and analysis of lighting data, energy, and diagnostic data.

Analysis of D4i Technology Characteristics

• 1) DALI part 250 integrated bus power supply:

In the application of DALI-2 system, the DALI bus connects multiple DALI devices and requires an external DALI bus power supply. The D4i driver integrates the bus power supply inside the driver and comes with a built-in bus. This function can be turned on or off, suitable for devices that require power supply from sensors or wireless communication controllers. The voltage on the DALI bus is 16V, with a high level range of 9.5-22.5V and a low voltage level of -6.5V-6.5V.

• 2) DALI Part 251 Lamp Data:

It covers the asset management of lighting fixtures and includes information data on power and light sources such as GTIN codes, serial numbers, production dates, and nominal parameters (power, voltage, CRI, CCT, etc.) of lighting fixture manufacturers.

•3) DALI Part 252 Energy Report:

It covers energy consumption measurement and defines how to report power and energy consumption, such as input power, output power, etc. Energy consumption monitoring reads energy consumption data from the operation of lighting fixtures, such as how much electricity is consumed by lighting fixtures and power sources, and how much electricity is provided by the grid.

•4) DALI Part 253 Diagnosis and Maintenance:

Defined various data reporting items for lamp drivers and light sources themselves, such as fault conditions, undervoltage/overvoltage events, thermal derating, power cycle numbers, etc. The driving power supply mainly depends on whether undervoltage/overvoltage/overtemperature is input, while the lamp mainly depends on whether there is short circuit/open circuit/overload/overtemperature and the number of faults. Diagnose the operation status of power supply and lighting fixtures, read maintenance data, and manage them in a data-driven manner.

•5) DALI part 150 24V auxiliary source (optional)

Defined interfaces between sensors and wireless modules (requirements: typical voltage 24vdc, 125mA auxiliary power supply, average power of 3W, peak power of 6W) to improve application reliability and facilitate external modules.

The advantages of D4i data power supply

The DALI-2 data-driven power supply has the advantages of standardization, simplicity, rich data, and unique standards. Its data capabilities in lighting data, energy consumption data, diagnosis, and maintenance can quickly provide the required data support for intelligent lighting. It is not only perfectly compatible with DALI wired and DALI wireless systems, but also can integrate with various systems such as KNX, Modbus, Casambi, etc., providing data capabilities for intelligent lighting. It has become the preferred choice for intelligent lighting at present.
