Before introducing DALI DT6 and DALI DT8, we need to know what “DT” is?

The full name of “DT” is Device Type, which distinguishes different types of control devices in the IEC 62386-102 (i.e. Part 102) section of the DALI-2 standard protocol. Different Device Types represent control devices with different characteristics, as well as the extended features that these control devices possess. This article mainly introduces DALI DT6 (Part 207) and DALI DT8 (Part 209)

– IEC 62386 standard –

① DALI DT6

DALI DT6: is an abbreviation for Device Type 6, referring to LED control devices (drivers). It is a DALI dimming LED driver, mainly in the form of constant current and constant voltage LED drivers. Mainly used for single channel dimming of ordinary LED lamps.

② DALI DT8

DALI DT8: It is an abbreviation for Device Type8, which refers to a dual channel color temperature control device (driver) or a multi-channel color control device (driver). From the current practical application requirements, there are more control devices that support adjustable color temperature (DT8 sub Tc), while there are fewer control devices that support color adjustment (DT8 sub RGBAWY).

⑥FAQ

Can DALI DT6 and DALI DT8 be mixed?
DALI DT6 and DALI DT8 can be mixed on the same DALI bus. This is because they all follow the DALI protocol, have the same communication rules and instruction set, so they can achieve interoperability in the same lighting control system.
It should be noted that when mixing DALI DT6 and DALI DT8, it should be ensured that they are both compatible with the DALI controller being used and have been properly configured and programmed. In addition, attention should be paid to address allocation and communication conflicts to ensure the stability and reliability of the system.
